Todd Smith's session
The first time I entered the auditorium, I liked the acoustics very much. It felt like entering a very well adjusted theater stage. Then, when we got to listen Dr. Todd smith, it was a real treat. His style of teaching was very engaging and also he has such a grabbing charisma that he was able to use in a way to grab our attention even more. It was very very entertaining more than just informative how he explained to us the different faults in the idea of ultimate freedom and the numerous prices that come with it as people give up order and discipline. Moreover, I am very happy now that I know more about the American political system, becuase it always seemed so unexplainable. Finally, I really hope to attend another session of Professor Todd Smith's any time soon.
While you have given a very enthusiastic summary, we would like you to be able to reflect on this could impact your teaching or at least make you reflect on your own practice. You describe his way of capturing and keeping attention, but also his way of entertaining as he is being so informative. How does that compare to your own teaching style? It does not mean that you need to change yours, rather just reflect. Finally, perhaps it is not his teaching style but his way of making you absorb the material or better yet, the material itself which will impact your classes the most. Will you use the content for some aspect of your teaching? You are not limited to these ideas, yet these are just opportunities to make you think some more and hopefully follow up with this here.
ReplyDeleteWell, I do not usually get the chance to explain something that is deeply related to history as he did. However, how he was able to form a solid narrative about the idea of freedom and the American history, can be applied in teaching drama or forms of theater and how they emerged. Also, I found some affinities between his style and my own, and maybe this is why I liked his session so much. The fact that some students come from different sections just to watch me is not only flattering, but it gives me a boost to keep it up and stay on track. It feels very fulfilling for me how many people willingly want to learn from me and how i teach, and I would go ahead and claim that Dr. Smith had the same feeling by the end of his session.
DeleteI'm glad that you found the session so informative and entertaining. What were some things that perhaps surprised you about the U.S. political system? What were some insights that you came to?
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, the same regulations are there in every country and government. It is bureacracy in Egypt, but here it is the political system. I belive that change is always met with obstacles everywhere. To be honest, and in my humble opinion, I was not surprised at all, because I never thought it would be any smoother, as no political system is.
